To implement this idea, I found old videos from when I went to Grenada to visit my family to represent life and began to research previous hurricanes and volcanic eruptions in Grenada and St Vincent as well as collect footage and images of the onset and aftermath of the natural disasters to include in the video. Death is inevitable and experienced on literal terms such as fatalities, but there’s also a loss of livelihood due to homes being wrecked and damaged and thousands being forced to evacuate from their homes ahead of volcanic eruptions in St Vincent for example. My family is originally from Grenada and St Vincent, and the harsh reality of living in these tropical countries is often trivialized by its beauty.

I came up with the idea of representing life and death by showing two depictions of the Caribbean - one characterized by its natural beauty and cultural richness and the other the horrible aftermath of natural disasters. I decided to brainstorm my ideas for my individual video: Thus we were making a conscious effort to improve on our time management skills and create some sort of a workflow so that we had an artefact in time for the final deadline. Giving ourselves a clear deadline meant that we forced ourselves to manage our time more carefully and dedicate more time to our group project which was an issue at the beginning stages. So that we had something to present to Matt in the next group meeting, we set ourselves a deadline of a week to film and edit our videos to feedback.
